Death at A Funeral

4 Jun

In desperate need of good film, me and four of my brothers decided to pay a visit to the cinema! Arriving at Purley Way Cinema to find an array of people queuing, lines reaching as far as the Nando’s, to see Noel Clarkes, 4,3,2,1! Stand up UK cinema! With long queue’s we decided to watch a film that would keep everyones moods in tact!
We decided to watch Death at a Funeral. A film featuring Martin Lawrence, Chris Rock and Regina Hall. The remake to its first feature (which was not so successful) proved to be a real crowd pleaser.

Innovative and hard-hitting punch lines, the film is the best comedy I have seen in a while. A simple plot which follows a family at a funeral, as stories unfold about the deceased and his undercover life.
With supporting stories from other members of the surrounding family, it was a real tear jerking, belly moving, ball of fun film! Not your typical black comedy, the film crosses boundaries and had everyone in the crowd laughing as the film unravels a series of hysterical jokes. For all the black cinema loves, A real hit and a definite must see!

So ranks in at an AMAZING 5***** STRAWBERRIES!!!

Why did I get Married too?

4 Apr

Both inspirational and creative, Atlanta’s writer and director Tyler Perry has not failed to deliver once again. Actor/ Writer and Director, Tyler has taken the church to the cinema, and not only that, he has given black cinema an established platform throughout the world.
His heart is always transparent in his productions and we now see his film ‘Why did I get married too?’ premiered in America on Friday 2nd April. A sequel to ‘Why did I get married’. The film stars Janet Jackson, Jill Scott, Richard T. Jones, Michael Jai White and Tyler himself amougnst of other leading actors. The film embodies the journey of marriage.

Bringing the heart of God into every play, film or even sit-com, we see a dynamic and breath taking performance from Janet Jackson.
It was June 2009 when she lost her brother, world wide superstar and icon, Michael Jackson. His passing came at a time when the world least expected it, at a time when Janet was still in pre-production of the film. In an interview with Oprah we see how she struggles, overcomes and how above all she channeled her emotions into this heart-wrenching performance. Both teary and emotional, this interview again gives us in the UK a brief taster of what to expect once this film comes over here.

A great come back from Tyler, with efforts to hit mainstream audiences, in ‘Why did I get married too?’ we see less references to Christianity and swearing, I guess this was in efforts to reach a wider audience. The ending was the films greatest downfall, ending literally in a car crash, with some issues left open and unexplained to the audience.
With some unexpected endings and introductions, we await to see if there will be a third follow on, that may close the open doors.

The film still touches and covers a range of home hitting issues, unlike many Hollywood blockbusters, Tyler has brought real life to the cinema, and we await his next feature, which sounds all so juicy!

Rating 4 Strawberrys ****
